When I look at pictures of the porch, I can’t help but notice the chipping paint and rotten siding and remember all the work we have left to finish, but I also see a perfect place to have a little snack on a hot summer afternoon, or relax with a cup of coffee early in the morning, and the chipping paint doesn’t seem quite so important.

You're so right! I always see the imperfections in my own house too. Why is that? Your porch is adorable and serves its purpose so well, even with chippy paint and unfinished projects.
ReplyDeleteI love it! We live in a 100+ year old farmhouse too! There is always something that will need fixed! We just found out we need a new roof! Good times! haha!
ReplyDeleteI love porches!!! And all the detail work in the banister trim. It's so pretty. My grandparents have an old farmhouse with a big front porch, and I always enjoyed snappin' green beans or visiting with the neighbors on it. Brings back a lot of good memories.
ReplyDeleteI love all the red accents. My mom lives in the 100+ year old farmhouse @ our family farm. I'm jealous. I'd trader her for my "new" (7 yrs old now) house any day....chipping paint and all (and hers is much worse than yours, don't worry)! :)
ReplyDeleteKatie I love your porch! I guess it must have been the day to show off porches and patios. :) I'm glad you liked the plates and platter I put in my little window box, I think it's one of my favorite things on my patio.
ReplyDeleteI love your old farmhouse....it has history and character and I don't even mind the chippy paint...I love chippy! ;)
Have a great week!
Missy
I kind of like your chippy paint... but I know what you mean. I didn't like OUR chippy paint! I like your set up, looks very charming and relaxing. As for the 100 year old house, they're the best, aren't they? Ours is also a perpetual project in progress, but I don't mind. You can't buy a new house with all the charm and style. I'm glad you bought your old farm house. They are steadily disappearing from the landscape in Iowa and I think that is a shame.
ReplyDeleteOH! This makes me wish I didn't live in Texas, it's way to hot to spend time on my porch.
ReplyDeleteCan I come hang out on yours?
Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYour porch is absolutely gorgeous..I love the
chippy paint..Looks like it should be in Country Living Magazine!
Girl, I love this porch. How wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh I want one!!!! Did you know that you are one of my favorite new blogs around? Well you are! And to prove it I've got a little somethin' somethin' for you over at my place today!!! Swing on by and check it out.

Nothing beats a glass of sweet tea on a old farmhouse porch! I seriously heart old farmhouses - but I know they are a ton of work! I grew up in a pre-Civil War home- tremendous character and history there, but it's like taking care of a little old lady!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, BTW!
I love the red ... it's such a happy, passionate color and fits any season. Your porch is gorgeous. Very welcoming. It says "Come in, happy people live here."
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have a front porch you can sit on! And yours is beautiful. It has such great details. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love your porch. I always thought we would live in an old farmhouse, but we could never find one to buy and we don't have any old farmhouses on the land we farm so we ended up building a house. A new house is not as much work as an old farmhouse, but there is always something to be done at a new house too. :-)
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I find it interesting that your turkey barns are tunnel ventilated. I was just in some tunnel ventilated hog barns this week.
I love this porch! I'm working on re-doing my farmhouse porch with red accents, too! I'm hoping to have some pictures up next week :-) I'll also be posting pictures soon of the whole house with the purple front door, so you'll be able to see if it's something you'd like to do. I love it! My porch was just too messy to take pictures from across the yard this week. Lol!

Your porch looks like a movie set! The chippy paint makes it IMO. Don't touch that paint! It'll ruin the taste of your morning coffee. :)
ReplyDeleteSo lovely!
Donna
Love your home!! Very nostalgic! Your porch is very charming and inviting!!
ReplyDeleteI love your porch with all it's character and unique look. And I think I have the white enamel pan to match the two you have under your red chair! Love the combo of items you've put together.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect! The red accents are just great! I would sit there and be perfectly content, well....unless I needed to do dishes or something..you know how that goes.
ReplyDeleteThe chipped paint adds character! I love your porch, chips and all.
ReplyDeleteI think its perfect the way it is! It's brimming with charm! Aside from having to repair the necessities, leave the rustic charm if you can. It's just so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I would love to have your porch. Just the thought of sitting in the shade, drinking coffee, and listening to the birds sounds great!
ReplyDeleteHey, it's a treasure, and you are doing a beautiful job. Be proud of it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the red!!!
ReplyDeleteYour farmhouse is adorable! I love how everything on the porch just pops out at you but is still so very cozy. I love how you used the old soda crate. It looks like a great place to sit!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteIt looks so inviting. The red is such a pretty accent.

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome porch!!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteOur home is 110+ (some estimates up to 150+) years old. You have inspired me, as I have some pretty blah porches at the moment!
P.S. I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteI love your front porch! It will look perfect dressed for the 4th! Glad I stopped by for a visit! Lemonade would be perfect out there. Not to mention the perfect spot for shucking corn....
ReplyDeleteNow this is a gorgeous porch! You are amazingly talented!
ReplyDeleteJust popped over from Between Naps on the Porch. I love your porch - just the way it is. It reminds me of long childhood summers spent eating watermelon and reading books and skipping on the sidewalk with my sister. And the red accents look beautiful! :)

Our porch got unceremoniously ripped off when handsomehusband was a boy. We have plans to put a new one on next year! What an inspiration to know how very much you love yours!
ReplyDeleteYou see chipping paint and I see a wonderful place to sit for a while. That's what caught my attention and brought me over from Funky Junk's site.
