I’ve written before about my love for Charleston, SC before. Bart and I honeymooned there and spent our first anniversary there.
But when we started raising turkeys, we knew that traveling would be nearly impossible. We have dreamed of going back to “our city” but thought that our only chance would be years from now.
Our farm has kept Bart from traveling far from home, but it also led to an opportunity for me to return to Charleston.
So last week, I spent a few days in the most beautiful city in the world, with the most beautiful group of farm women!
Our conference kept us busy for most of the trip, but we did manage to get some fun in. Our first night there, I took the other ladies from Iowa to my favorite Charleston restaurant: 82 Queen. We ate outdoors in the courtyard and truly felt as though we had been transported to another land and time.
We enjoyed Charleston’s famous she-crab soup and some delicious southern food.
The next morning, we had some free time and I got to meet up with a long-time blogging friend, Kathryn from Take My Breath Away. This was the first time I’d met a blogger in real life, but it was amazing. At one point, she and I had about 6 conversations going on at once. It was like we were trying to cram an entire lifetime of friendship into two hours – AWESOME!
Kathryn is a great photographer, and she coached me and helped me get these shots of the hotel where Bart and I honeymooned.
The weather was BEAUTIFUL. I wish we had more time to spend outside soaking up Charleston’s beauty.
On our last evening there, I led some of the ladies down to the battery, where one of them got to see the ocean for the first time! I know that Charleston’s harbor isn’t exactly the “real” ocean, but for Karra from Kansas, it was close enough!
I also bought a seagrass basket for the first time. It will have a place of honor on one of our bedside tables.
Until next time, Charleston…I love you!
