31 Days of Decorating with Junk: Adjustable Game Table Makeover

I’m terrible at taking pictures as I work on a project.  But for this project, the failure was really in my lack of AFTER pictures.  You’d think after 4 years of blogging, I’d remember that important part.

But I do have a couple of pictures to show you.

First, the before:

adjustable game table

This adjustable game table is really cool.  It lowers to coffee table height and raises up to dining table height.  We used it as a coffee table in our living room for awhile, because it was so versatile.  When we had family over for dinner and needed more table space, we simply raised it up!

But, in the time it spent in our living room, it suffered a little damage at the hands of two little boys.

Plus, it had that wonderful vintage “fly-poop” finish.  You know the one – where it looks like someone splattered dark paint all over it.  Looks like fly-poop to me.

I thought maybe I’d just strip and refinish the top, so that’s what I started doing.  I used citristrip and a drywall trowel.

Look at the pattern on that beautiful veneer!

It was so pretty, I knew I didn’t want to cover it up.  So I decided to do a two-toned, Ballard Designs style beachy whitewash.

I painted the base and then dry-brushed the top.

This was for sale in The HomeShed, but it went to a new home last weekend.  It’s new home is perfect for it – a 100+ year old victorian house nearby.

And now, for the terrible “after” pictures…
