Then your drill will make its &quot;exit wound&quot; in the scrap wood, and not in your nice shelf. That splintering happens with almost everything, in my own experience. Because this is fabricated materials, it has a tendency to splinter on the back side when you drill. Not sure it will totally solve the problem, but sure can&#39;t hurt. That&#39;s a really cute idea, by the way.
